Abstract
Global information integration in R&D

Pierre Allemand, Ph.D., Director, Business Development, Symyx AG

The pharmaceutical industry is facing a formidable challenge. On one hand, it is important to gather more and more information at each step of the R&D process, on the other hand, this information is important to more and more people along the complex drug discovery and design chain. This exponential increase in information sharing, compounded by the introduction of parallel methods at all stages of the process, requires a change in mentality about how to deal with knowledge in a pharmaceutical R&D organisation.

This presentation will discuss how such global information flows can be handled and what impact handling those has, both on the way of working and the way of thinking that corporations have to introduce to survive. It will also cover examples of how a global information management network can help companies reach the next level necessary in this context. Some pitfalls and dangers of information strategies will be explored to illustrate this vision.
