| Scott K. Starry, Senior Project Manager, Symyx IntelliChem |
|
| Dr. Starry's background is in engineering with Bachelor's degrees in Chemical Engineering and Philosophy from the University of Delaware and with Master's and Doctoral degrees in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. While working on algorithms for simulating materials' properties, Dr. Starry learned the tools and language of pharmacophoric design and cheminformatics, which lead him to work directly with pharmaceutical customers on specific projects for most of his seven years at Tripos, Inc. Dr. Starry then moved inside the pharmaceutical world by joining Tularik, Inc. (now Amgen, San Francisco) where he spent seven years building systems for medicinal chemistry, assay biology, and ADMET as well as implementing clinical (adverse events) and regulatory (document control) systems. Currently, Dr. Starry is responsible for Symyx IntelliChem's electronic laboratory notebook for medicinal chemistry and biology, which can provide an important source to capture experimental methods and resulting data that may help to estimate drug safety early in the research cycle.
