Douglas Weidner, President, International Knowledge Management Institute
Douglas Weidner was a pioneering KM practitioner. He is a respected consultant, columnist, speaker and KM instructor. Prior to joining the KM Institute as Chairman (2004), he founded KMPro and was the Executive Director of its Learning Center (2001-4). He was the Chief Knowledge Engineer and Senior Technical Fellow and consultant for $29B Northrop Grumman, the largest professional employer in the DC area. He provided Northrop Grumman's KM innovations to clients worldwide, including KM training, assessment/planning, design, and implementation (1995-2001). He's been directly involved in KM since he designed the KBase Tool for DoD, while working at a DoD think tank(1992-5). He has consulted and mentored the World Bank (1996), the UN (2000), NASA, and many other government agencies and commercial firms.

Douglas developed the Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) and Master CKM Programs in 1999 - 2001. He has certified over 300 Certificants and now delivers these programs worldwide. He recently developed the Knowledge Professional (KP) Program which focuses on mastery of personal KM for Power (knowledge) Workers. He has trained and advised KM leaders in almost every U.S. Government Agency and from over 500 commercial firms to rave reviews. He focuses on the KM Institute's KM Body of Knowledge (KMBOK) and its much expanded KM Certification offerings for knowledge workers (CKW) and knowledge specialists (CKS) worldwide. He has been on e-Gov's KM Conference Advisory Board since inception-2000, where he has presented some of their best attended KM Fundamentals workshops and track sessions. He served as KM Conference Chair for both IQPC-2003 and Innovative Enterprise World Summit-2003 and serves as a Director on the KM Certification Board, which he co-founded in 1999. He founded the world's most active KM Chapter, located in the Greater Washington Area (DC) in late 1998, re-elected as its President in 1999 and 2000.

He is an engineering graduate of the US Air Force Academy -- MBA in Business Economics, MSIE in Operations Research. He was the bylined KM columnist for the e-gov Journal, has published chapters in KM books and numerous articles, and has been chair, keynote or general session speaker at many KM-focused conferences, e.g., Brookings Institution, APQC/World Bank Symposium, FCW CIO Summit, Training Directors Forum, ASTD, TrainingWorld, COMDEX, Navy Connectivity Conferences, and many others.

Douglas has a proven reputation as a dynamic and influential speaker. His delivery style is considered highly energetic and entertaining, yet truly insightful (practical exercises). He focuses on the practical application of KM theory and key learning objectives.

So what does he do with his spare time? He and his wife completed in 2001 a four-year, 4,000 hour project designing, subcontracting, and landscaping their dream home. More recently, he has been creating the KM Institute's eCKM Program, including its core of interactive video, and self-paced modules.
