JohnRobert Gardner is Search, Browse and Taxonomy Tech Lead for Sun Microsystems, IT. With a PhD in Sanskrit, Gardner has piloted a Big Ten electronic dissertation program in XML, and started a large electronic library project for Emory University before bringing his skills to Sun. Author of the book "XSLT and XPATH: A Guide to XML Transformations," recently translated into Chinese, and many publications (among them, "Information architecture planning with XML" in the September, 2001 issue of Library Hi Tech), Gardner is an integral architect in Sun's Semantic Web and enterprise search initiatives. Gardner is also well versed on the Z39.50 architecture and RDF, OWL and other Semantic Web specification, particularly those in genetics and oncology (GO and NCI Oncology), with taxonomy and language processing patents under way and having published and spoken on the topics.
