Talk Abstract:

The scientific method is an abridged version of the 17th-century statistical method. There has been a wealth of progress in mathematical knowledge since then. Until recently, any one of these advancements has been inaccessible to the majority of tasks.

Most certainly not all techniques could ever be entertained on any one task. Computation has made this possible and machine learning is the conglomeration of centuries of mathematical thought.
